Sharon Osbourne Claims Americans Don’t Want Different Opinions On TV After Being Fired From ‘The Talk’

Sharon Osbourne believes that US television networks aren’t open to the idea of allowing people to express their honest views on TV after being fired from The Talk for defending her pal Piers Morgan, who was called a “racist” for his stance on Meghan Markle.

The 69-year-old was ousted from her co-hosting position on the show after engaging in a heated debate with her fellow panelists during a discussion about Piers’ comments about the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. She later revealed that because she stood up for Piers, she had also been accused of being a “racist,” prompting CBS to put the show on an immediate hiatus. An internal investigation was performed, with Sharon’s departure later being confirmed by the month’s end.

The outspoken TV star, who revealed she was ditching Los Angeles to move back to the UK last month, has now expressed her views on the debacle, insisting that having a different opinion on US TV leads to severe consequences. Speaking at a TalkTV press event, she gushed, “I don’t like those shows that they produce over here (in America) where if you don’t agree, they start slinging chairs at each other and calling each other out.”

Sharon continued, “It’s not personal; it’s somebody’s opinion, so if you don’t like it, you tell the person why you don’t like it and why you don’t agree with them, and you move on.”

In March, it was announced that the mother-of-three would be working alongside Piers at the forthcoming British television channel TalkTV, owned and operated by News UK, which is the publisher of news publications such as The Times and The Sun. Sharon will front her own current affairs show, which is also being called The Talk, for an hour-long episode every weekday.

There, she will be joined by a string of famous opinionated faces who will contribute to discussing trending news from around the world. “I’m excited to be working with News UK, the panel and my good friend Piers,” Sharon said in a statement. “Watch this space for some exciting and lively debates from us all.”

“Her unbounding energy will make her show compelling viewing and we are delighted to give her a new home at TalkTV.”

Piers and Sharon have been friends for at least 16 years, previously working on America’s Got Talent together as judges, and now they are rejoining forces for their new project on TalkTV, which launches next week.

Sharon has previously said she’s no longer in contact with her former CBS colleagues and hopes to leave the firing fiasco in the past.
