Shakira is reportedly planning to leave Barcelona and relocate to Miami following a string of personal troubles that have plagued her life in recent months. Back in June, the “La Tortura” singer announced her split from longtime partner Gerard Pique, with whom she shares two children.
Then came the news that prosecutors were calling for Shakira to serve eight years in prison following a two-year dispute over claims she didn’t pay her taxes between 2012 and 2014, during which time she was alleged to have been living in Spain, which the 45-year-old contended, saying she was actually living in the Bahamas at the time.

With all the drama she has found herself in as of late, sources tell Page Six that Shakira is ready to pack her belongings and make the move to Florida with her two sons, Sasha and Milan. Not to mention, Shakira has plenty of relatives, including her parents, and childhood friends based in Miami, so she’ll certainly have more than enough support upon making the big leap.
Realtor and family friend Ana Lourdes spoke to the New York Post about the singer looking to trade in Barcelona for Miami Beach, saying, “Miami is her home. Her parents live here, her brother lives here, her niece and nephew, too. She doesn’t have any family in Spain. It’s a different environment from Barcelona.”
Many of her pals are said to have tried to convince Shakira in making the move for quite some time, and now, with the tax fraud case looming ahead, it seems as if she’s no longer hesitating on making the move — she’s leaving everything behind in Barcelona to start a new life with her children around the people she cares about the most.
Meanwhile, a rep for Shakira addressed claims of their client having allegedly failed to pay her taxes when she has vehemently denied living in Spain during the period prosecutors claim she failed to make any payments.

According to their statement, Shakira has never had any run-ins with the law concerning her taxes, and she plans to prove her innocence once the matter has been given an official trial date. “Shakira has always cooperated and abided by the law, demonstrating impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer, and faithfully following the counsel of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a prestigious and globally recognized tax firm,” they said.
“Unfortunately, the Spanish Tax Office, which loses one out of every two lawsuits with its taxpayers, continues to violate her rights and pursue yet another baseless case. Shakira is confident that her innocence will be proven by the end of the judicial process.”
