A member working on the stage setup for the singer’s highly anticipated show in Rio de Janeiro tragically lost his life after a devastating accident.
The man, whose identity hasn’t been publicly shared, was part of the team building out the structure for the Todo Mundo No Rio concert, an event that usually brings out huge crowds to Copacabana Beach.

According to organizers, things took a serious turn during the setup process. The state’s fire brigade also reported that the worker became trapped in a lifting system, leading to critical injuries. A statement to PEOPLE read,
“A worker suffered crushing injuries to his lower limbs in a lifting system. Before the arrival of emergency teams, the victim had already been removed from the equipment by other employees present.”
In a statement shared on Instagram, organizers said:
“First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital. At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team, and the victim’s family.”
They also detailed the emergency response, adding: “Military personnel from the ambulance service of the 3rd Maritime Group (GMAR-Copacabana) immediately began pre-hospital care on the victim, who was then transported to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, death was confirmed.”
The annual concert at Copacabana Beach is known for drawing millions, and Shakira is set to headline this year’s event. As of now, she hasn’t made a public statement about the tragedy.
