Seven men were found dead in a popular tourist area with warning messages written on their bodies on Thursday.

Messages were written on the bodies of the victims to issue a warning to rival members of another cartel
The bodies were found on the side of a roadway in the Huasteca region and prosecutors claim the seven men did not appear to be from the town of Aquismon. Photos of the bodies showed heavy bruising to which investigators assumed they were beaten multiple times before their deaths in another rural area before they were dumped in the town. Messages on the bodies read, “this is what happened to me for working with the Gulf.”
Investigators believe the messages are referencing the Gulf Carter, an organized crime group that operates mainly along the U.S. border to up north as reported by CBS News.

The Gulf Cartel is currently the leading organized crime unit along the northern coast of Mexico
The messages were also signed “Valles Operation O.B.” which apparently referenced a rival gang. However, the recent discovery of the bodies may be in connection to the arrest of Gulf Cartel leader Mario Cardenas-Guillen as he was extradited to Texas on drug trafficking charges. DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said the group uses intimidation and violence to maintain control of its territories.
“[The group uses] intimidation and extreme violence to maintain control of its territories in northeast Mexico and smuggle deadly drugs into communities across the United States,”
Two weeks prior to the discovery, eight women and three men were killed in an apparent revenge plot where a street shooting took place at two bars and a hotel in Guanajuato state. The area is known for its various drug trafficking routes and stolen fuel. Last week, five high school students and a woman were killed during a similar incident in the area.
Recently, the Gulf Cartel is known as the main drug trafficking competitor against Los Zeta, and the Zeta Cartel in addition to their splinter groups all over the country.
Tom Homan, Former Acting Director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, explained to Fox News that the issues between rival cartel gangs will continue to increase alongside the border and he also placed blame on the Biden administration for their lack of enforcement.
“The most treacherous territory is where the convicted criminals and the drug dealers try to move their drugs because it’s harder to apprehend them. You know, only with use of a drone can you see them coming. So, yeah, you’re going to see populations across the entire southwest border. Every sector is going to see an increase because the cartel is going to spread their madness out, right? They’re going to send large groups to a certain area knowing Border Patrol is going to surge resources there. And that’s where they’re going to move the drugs and the convicted criminals, the pedophiles. This again, it’s a worst-case scenario. This administration has sold out our national security.”
