While promoting his new documentary, Lamar Odom is again opening up about his near death experience, and recalling his ex-wife Khloé Kardashian telling him that his own father allegedly wanted to “pull the plug” on him.
On Monday (April 6), Odom joined TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on their show, ‘Jenna & Sheinelle.’
During the sit-down, Odom talked about his new doc, ‘Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.” The project tells the story of the NBA legend’s off-court battle he faced with fame, reality TV, and a deeply personal and difficult fight with addiction.
Odom recalled his medical miracle after overcoming 12 strokes, 6 heart attacks, and a 3-day coma following his 2015 overdose. He revealed how important holding onto his faith was during his recovery and how he’s committed to helping others like him.

Odom also told ‘Jenna & Sheinelle’ hosts the status of his relationship with his ex-wife. But, before that, he recalled reuniting with her last year. In February 2025, he appeared on an episode of ‘The Kardashians’ on Hulu.
During the episode, Kardashian came face-to-face with her ex-husband. The emotional reunion that marked the first time they had connected since their 2016 divorce. To help ease awkwardness or any tension, Kardashian’s best friend Malika Haqq joined them.
While sitting with her ex-husband, Kardashian recalled the circumstances surrounding Odom’s 2015 overdose and hospital recovery. She alleged his later father, Joe Odom, who passed in 2021, wanted to pull the plug on the former NBA star. She said, “I was there when your father said, ‘Pull the plug so he can be on your life insurance.’”
Now, in his TODAY interview, Odom insisted that he doesn’t believe that was the case. He said:
“I was knocked out and [a]sleep at that time. But, you know, if you know who Joe Odom [was], I don’t think that was something that would ever come out of his mouth. He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got caught in mistranslation. I just can’t see him ever, ever doing that.”
Odom also admitted that his reunion with Kardashian “was awkward and wasn’t good” for him. He said:
“It was awkward. It wasn’t really good for me. But, once you’re family, you’re always family. So, she ain’t going nowhere. I will always have love for her. But, being in love? No.”
