Serena Williams has teased a potential sequel to the critically-acclaimed flick King Richard, which follows the life of her dad, Richard Williams, who thoroughly trained her and sister Venus to become two of the greatest tennis players of all time.

The captivating movie was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute, with Serena and Venus working as executive producers to help tell the story in its most authentic form. But now, it appears as if a follow-up to the movie could be in the works as Serena declares she’s not done wearing her EP hat in Hollywood just yet.

In a recent interview with Insider, the mother-of-one gushed about the ending of King Richard, which sees Venus embarking and finishing her first professional tournament, which Serena said was the perfect way to conclude her father’s story.

But what the movie didn’t touch on was the lives of Venus and Serena after becoming two of the most feared women in tennis, with the latter saying that she and her siblings went in two different directions, setting the stage for a sequel if studios bosses were interested.

“King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court,” the 40-year-old expressed. “Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction. It’s two completely different stories.”

Serena shared that her journey in tennis was anything but easy once she had made a name for herself as a serious competitor in the sport. There appears to be more than enough material to put together another motion picture on the big screen from tough tournaments, several losses, and family issues.

“I had a rough journey,” Serena continued. “I didn’t do well, and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.”

Despite having won 73 singles titles in her career, finishing as runner-up at 25 other events, including 10 Grand Slams, the California native added that she’s not great at acknowledging her own accomplishments because there’s always room for growth and improvement.

Serena’s habit of not dwelling on her accolades has allowed her to focus her attention on the next prize because, according to the tennis champ, she still plans to achieve a number of things before she decides to retire from her profession.

“I don’t think I recognize my accomplishments enough,” she declared. “I’m one of those people that’s like, ‘If it’s done, it’s done, I’ve moved on.’ Because if you think about what you’ve done too much, you may stop doing it. And I never want to stop. I’m still trying to reach my goals.”

It’s unclear whether there’s already been some interest shown in having Serena and Venus work on a follow-up to King Richard, depicting their lives after moving out of Compton and taking the world of tennis by storm.
