Serena Williams Gets Emotional Before Walking Out Of Post-Match Press Conference — Social Media Sends Love

As we previously reported, Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday in the semi-final round of the 2021 Australian Open. Osaka advanced to the final with the win, denying Williams a chance for a 24th career Grand Slam singles title.

During a post-match press conference on Thursday, Williams became emotional while speaking to reporters about her loss. Williams was asked whether the world Jura saw Williams compete for the last time. She said, “I don’t know, if I ever say farewell I wouldn’t tell anyone so.” As questions continued to come in, Williams was appearing to get tearful and eventually stated she had to be done with answering questions, explaining, “I don’t know … I’m done,” she said as her voice began to shake more.

Despite her loss, social media users have been sending her sweet and encourage words, reminding her how great and talented she is on and off the court. One Twitter user said, “Serena Williams is the greatest of all time. In every way. Always.” Another added, “@serenawilliams is TOP 5 athletes of all time. NOT top 5 female athletes.. TOP 5 ATHLETES OF ALL TIME!! Whenever she decides to walk away, she needs to know how much love we have for her greatness.”

Osaka, will now go on to compete against Jennifer Brady in the finals of the tennis tournament.
