Seattle Driver Charged In Death Of Peaceful BLM Protestor Summer Taylor

The Seattle driver who recklessly plowed down peaceful BLM protestor Summer Taylor — who goes by non-binary pronouns — tragically killing them, has now been charged in their death.

In the early hours of Saturday (July 4), the driver, 27-year-old Dawit Kelete, was arrested, and now he is facing charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and reckless driving. While his bail is set at $1.2 million, he is expected to remain in jail, and is looking at over 13 years in prison for the multiple charges he faces.

Furthermore, the investigation is still ongoing, which means additional charges can be brought against him for not only the murder of Taylor, but also for the injuries sustained by another Black Femme March demonstrator, 32-year-old Diaz Love, who also goes by non-binary pronouns and claims they are “alive and stable.”

Additionally, Kelete’s lawyer, John Henry Brown, says his client did not intentionally hit Taylor and Love, noting the crash was a “horrible, horrible accident. There’s absolutely nothing political about this case whatsoever. My client is in tears. He’s very remorseful. He feels tremendous guilt.”
