San Francisco Art Gallery Owner Arrested & Charged After Apologizing For Spraying Homeless Woman With Water
On Wednesday afternoon (January 18), the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Collier Gwin, the art gallery owner caught on camera hosing down a homeless woman.
Following the arrest warrant, CBS San Francisco reporter Betty Yu, shared video to her social media, reporting that Gwin had been arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
According to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, the misdemeanor battery charge was for “the alleged intentional and unlawful spraying of water on and around a woman experiencing homelessness on January 9.
Brooke issued another tweet and said, “The alleged battery of an unhoused member of our community is completely unacceptable. Mr. Gwin will face appropriate consequences for his actions. Likewise, the vandalism at Foster Gwin gallery is also completely unacceptable and must stop – two wrongs do not make a right.”
If Gwin is convicted on his respective charges, he will face up to six months in a county jail and have to pay a $2,000 fine.
Prior to Gwin’s arrest, he did end up issuing an apology. In a video, he said, “I’m deeply apologetic and implored when I watched that video. I completely broke. Not equipped or trained to deal with a longterm city-wide problem like this.”

Gwin continued, “I know it’s very hard to watch. I can only ask others to try to, maybe, better understand my breaking point, by looking at sudden reactions, they might have had i their own lives, and how they may have strongly overreacted, and now feel so humbled and sorry.
Gwin began to conclude, “There’s a breaking point. I have the video to constantly remind me that this is a large cross to bear. My spiritual guide is the serenity prayer, and I will find direction, humility and courage by its daily use in my life. I’m committed to making amends and helping others. That’s what I can do, and what I will do. And thank you everyone for at least, letting me share that with you.”
