‘Rust’ Armorer Allegedly Mishandled Guns On Previous Film Starring Nicolas Cage

A crew member is speaking out about the fatal incident that occurred on the Rust set and reveals that the armorer was not experienced and had put the cast and crew in unsafe circumstances on a previous film.

“A few incidents happened that really got me upset and made me want to get her removed from the set because of it,” Stu Brumbaugh said on Banfield.

Brumbaugh worker on the film “The Old Way” starring Nicolas Cage.

“There’s a protocol that we do on these movie sets that were broken on numerous occasions,” Brumbaugh added.

The prop gun used in the Rust filming killed  cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director, Joel Souza.

The armorer on set was Hannah Gutierrez, and in a podcast interview in September, Gutierrez said she had recently finished her first movie in the role of head armorer in the film starring Cage. She expressed how she was nervous and didn’t believe she was ready.

“I was really nervous about it at first and I almost didn’t take the job because I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but doing it, like, it went really smoothly,” she said.

Other allegations on Cage’s set included, Gutierrez allegedly firing off a blank round right next to the actor, and walking around with pistols aimed at people.

“What this really boils down to is just not having enough help on the set,” Brumbaugh added. “I don’t think that somebody being killed is any sort of, you know, a free pass, just because you’re young, obviously. There’s major things happening on these movie sets that that need to change significantly.”
