Rihanna is staying booked and busy, okay! While we’re still waiting for the highly-anticipated ninth album, it’s been announced that Rih-Rih will be starring in the upcoming “Smurfs” film, per Billboard. Directed by Chris Miller, who is perhaps best known for films such as, “21 Jump Street” and “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs,” the motion picture has yet to be given an official name, but one thing that’s for sure is that Rihanna will be part of the cast.
“I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester,” Rihanna said as she graced the stage at CinemaCon on Thursday. “I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day.” The “Love On The Brain” hitmaker, who is currently expecting her second child with A$ap Rocky, looked ever-so-elegant in a stonewash caped dress accompanied by a pair of thigh-high boots. The movie is expected to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
And while fans are still hoping for new music, let’s not forget that it was just a few weeks back when Rihanna shared her plans to still put out a new project sometime this year. “I want it to be this year,” she told British Vogue. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”
Rihanna’s debut in acting was met with positive reviews. Many fans were surprised at how well she transitioned from music to acting. In “Battleship,” Rihanna played the role of Petty Officer Cora Raikes, a tough and courageous naval officer who helps save the world from an alien invasion. Her performance was praised by critics, who noted her natural talent and on-screen presence.
Rihanna’s acting career has been filled with milestones. In addition to her successful debut in “Battleship” and her critically acclaimed performance in “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” she has also appeared in the films “Ocean’s 8” and “Guava Island.” In “Ocean’s 8,” she played the role of Nine Ball, a skilled hacker who helps pull off a heist at the Met Gala. In “Guava Island,” she starred alongside Donald Glover, playing the role of Kofi, a talented singer who dreams of leaving her small island for a better life.
Like many musicians who transition to acting, Rihanna faced a number of challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges was learning how to act. While she had some experience in front of the camera from her music videos, acting requires a different skill set. Rihanna had to learn how to convey emotion and become comfortable with the process of filming scenes over and over again.
Rihanna’s impact on the film industry has been significant. Her success as a musician has brought a new level of attention to her acting career, and her performances have proven that she has the talent to succeed in both fields. In addition, her presence in films has helped to diversify the industry, bringing more visibility to people of color and women.
