Retired NYPD Officer Charged With Attacking Capitol Cop With Pole During Riots

A retired NYPD officer has been charged with assaulting a police officer during the Capitol riots on Jan.6 after turning himself in.

54-year-old Thomas Webster turned himself in at the FBI’s field office in Hudson Valley, New York weeks after the riots. Prosecutors said Webster used an aluminum pole to assault the officer and  ripped off his protective gear and gas mask, causing the officer to choke.” The entire altercation was captured on video and Webster was also seen climbing through a broken window and entering the building.

A neighbor revealed Webster’s identity after investigators asked for information regarding the identities of rioters who attacked police officers and destroyed government property. He was charged with unlawful entry, assaulting a police officer using a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct along with using threatening and abusive language as per CBS New York.

The FBI confirmed the news in a tweet stating that they will continue to bring those responsible for causing the riots to justice.

“Earlier today, Thomas Webster was taken into custody for his role in the riot and assault on the Capitol, as we continue to assist our colleagues  @FBIWFO bring those responsible to justice.”
