Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, is finding himself at the center of a major legal scandal. According to court records, he is facing multiple felony charges related to the alleged sexual exploitation of a child in Colorado—and this comes just weeks before he is set to be sentenced in two separate cases.
The arrest took place in Garfield County on Sunday, Aug. 9. Court records obtained by PEOPLE show Tyler is facing charges of child sexual exploitation of a child to induce or entice, sexual exploitation of a child, possession with intent, sexual exploitation of a child involving video and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The alleged offense date is listed as Jan. 1, 2024.
News of the arrest was first reported by Muckrakers.today. According to the court files, an affidavit was filed on Aug. 6, leading to a warrant issued on Aug. 7. A bond was set at $10,000 that same day, and the warrant was officially canceled on Aug. 9.
Records indicate that a surety bond was posted, and Tyler was released the very same day he was arrested. He is expected back in court on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
This is just the latest hurdle for the oldest son of the congresswoman and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert. Tyler is already facing a sentencing hearing in Weld County on Sept. 4 for a 2025 child abuse case, after pleading guilty to one count of negligence without injury. He also has another sentencing hearing on the calendar for Sept. 10 in Garfield County, stemming from a February 2024 arrest involving a string of vehicle trespasses and property thefts.
These latest legal developments are adding pressure to his mother’s reelection campaign in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. Despite representing a solidly Republican district, the 39-year-old congresswoman is facing a challenge from Democrat Eileen Laubacher, a recently retired Navy veteran.
