Actress Regina Hall recently admitted on ‘The Breakfast Club’ that she’s “never heard” one of the most iconic Negro Spirituals / Black national anthems, “Knuck If You Buck” by Crime Mob.

The song was released back in 2004 and is heralded as a cultural touchstone, if not something beyond it. Atlanta rap group Crime Mob had no idea that they 2004 single was going to be talked about for decades to come, much less be referred to as a Negro Spiritual or Black National Anthem. Did you?

Regina Hall Admits She’s ‘Never Heard’ The Negro Spiritual “Knuck If You Buck:” ‘I Don’t Know How I Missed It’

While promoting her new movie ’Honk For Jesus,’ Regina Hall made an appearance on Power 105.1’s ‘The Breakfast Club,’ and spoke with hosts Charlamgne Tha God and Angela Yee (it’s third host DJ Envy was out for the day).

As she sat in the hot seat, Regina was confronted by CThaGod, who claimed he was “disappointed” in her and her ‘Honk For Jesus’ co-star Sterling K. Brown.

CTG said he was stunned that neither one of them had knew “Knuck If You Buck” prior to filming their movie, in which both actors are seen in a car reciting the song’s infamous opening verses. He joked, “I’m highly disappointed that you and Sterling K. Brown had to learn the words to the Negro spiritual, ‘Knuck If You Buck.’ You’re Black, Regina Hall!”

Responding, Regina chuckled and agreed, stating,  “It’s embarrassing! That’s what I found out!” However, the actress claims that she did not know the song much because when it came out, she was in LA, not her hometown of Washington, D.C.

When CTG burst out, “It was in LA too!,” Regina falls back and says well it was probably a club song. And in that case, she didn’t hear it because “the club days ended so early for me.” She said by her early 20s, she was finished with that scene.

CThaGod then asks Regina how long it took for her to learn the song so that she could perfectly recite it in her movie. Regina goes on to admit that she simply studied her verse alone, and that it took her about two to three days to get the bars down pat.

Princess of Crime Mob has since responded to the viral clip of Regina rapping her bars in her new movie.

She took to Instagram and said: “My parents always said we need to use our talents for the Lord. #honkforjesus was filmed on flat shoals pkwy in Decatur, GA, at the old Cathedral church.

Well known on the Eastside…. @sterlingkbrown @morereginahall are rapping #knuckifyoubuck. The movie airs the same weekend we did our first show…. If you don’t think God has a sense of humor… ??? Y’all go watch it in theaters and on @peacocktv.”
