Before giving birth to her little miracle, Broadmeadow feared that she would never be able to have a child after receiving her diagnosis.

In 2017, Broadmeadow learned that she was diagnosed with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). It is reported that Broadmeadow’s cancer type is extremely rare, where the chances of being diagnosed with it, is one in a million.

Prior to her diagnosis, Broadmeadow revealed that she began to feel sharp pains near her appendix. She also said that she began to spot between her menstruation cycles.

So she scheduled an appointment with her general physician, who ended up ruling out any pregnancies and ordered that she undergo an ultrasound — which led to further test including an MRI and CT scan.

From these tests, doctors soon discovered fluid within in her womb, and she was referred to Europe’s largest and most advanced cancer treatment center: Manchester’s Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Following tests at the center, Broadmeadow’s oncologist revealed that they believed that she had PMP and that she would have to have her ovaries removed — which left her “absolutely devastated.”

She explained, “I literally just thought, ‘Well, that’s it. I’m never going to be a mom. I’m never going to have the dream that I’ve always wanted.’”

Broadmeadow ended up undergoing an initial surgery, which was followed with a second that would take eight hours and involve the removal of her gallbladder, spleen, layers of tissue, fallopian tubes and both of her ovaries.

Broadmeadow then underwent heated chemotherapy (HIPEC), which was placed directly into her abdomen to rid any remaining tumor cells.

Following her surgeries, Broadmeadow — who still wanted to become a mother — learned that she was able to get support with IVF (In vitro fertilization) treatment, so she sought out experts to help her.

Speaking with ’Sky News,’ Broadmeadow said, “I was very fortunate that in between the two operations, I was able to have my eggs harvested on the NHS. I managed to get 17 eggs, which I’m very, very grateful for.”

In 2021, Broadmeadow — who will be five years cancer free in August 2023 — began the process of having her miracle baby. After having 17 eggs harvested, only eight were usable after being defrosted, and then from those eight, only two embryos were viable for IVF.

Broadmeadow’s first attempt with IVF resulted in miscarriage, and the her second egg, her last hope, resulted in a miracle. Broadmeadow managed to beat the odds and give birth to a biological son, named Harry.

The new mother describes her son Harry as a “miracle.” She explains, “He is an absolute miracle. Every time I look at him, I just think how lucky I am. I call him my little Nemo. In the film, Finding Nemo, Nemo was the last little egg left. So he’s my little Nemo. He’s my little miracle. He’s just so special.”

Broadmeadow, continues, “He’s actually a life-saver as well because, without my desire to have him, I probably wouldn’t be here. So, he’s very special. He’s totally turned my world upside down. Definitely, life is now for living.”
