R. Kelly’s Ex-Wife Drea Kelly Says She ‘Was Married But Never A Wife’
In a new interview with Page Six, Andrea Kelly opens up about her experience with singer R. Kelly, admitting their relationship was from perfect, despite the perception her life was because of his fame and fortune.
While speaking with the outlet, Andrea explained: “Money does not bring you happiness; it is a lonely place,” Drea told us of her union with the infamous singer. “I still say, ‘I was married but I was never a wife,’ and I don’t want anyone [else to experience that] … especially the younger generation,” Page Six quotes.
The 46-year-old went on to advise newlyweds not to put so much focus on materialistic things because if their marriage were to end like hers, they may be left with absolutely nothing: “At the end of the day, what you need to understand … is that when it’s over, they will let you know his damn money is his damn money and they leave with their money,” Andrea said. Andrea and Kelly were married in 1996 and welcomed three children. But the two later split in 2005 before officially divorcing in 2009.

While Kelly is currently in the slammer on multiple sex crime charges pending his April 2021 trial, Drea recently appeared on VH1’s “Hollywood Exes” reunion with the original cast Nicole Murphy, ex-wife of Eddie Murphy, Will Smith’s former spouse Sheree Zampino, Prince ex Mayte Garcia and Jessica Canseco, who was married to Jose Canseco, among others.
