R. Kelly Moved To Solitary Confinement After Jailhouse Beatdown, Lawyer Pleads For Prison Release
Earlier today, we reported that R. Kelly was allegedly attacked in his Chicago prison cell by another inmate. Following the jailhouse beatdown, the 53-year-old singer has now been moved to solitary confinement. However, his attorney is pleading for his prison release altogether.
The incident — which was motivated by multiple lockdowns throughout the day over Kelly’s protestors — happened as the disgraced R&B legend was sitting on his bed when another man walked in his cell and began punching him. Officials say the fight didn’t last long and after an examination, Kelly walked away unscathed and moved to solitary.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s Chicago-based attorney Steve Greenberg says, “That’s the only place they can protect him. I’m still very concerned because sure this time the guards were able to quickly stop something from happening but what happens if someone goes in his cell with a shank or something like that? Or the guards are busy doing something else? We were fortunate this time but who’s to say next time?” Taking to his Twitter, he sayd, “It is time to release Mr. Kelly. The government cannot ensure his safety, and they cannot give him his day in court. We should not incarcerate people indefinitely because we cannot provide them with due process!”
Further explaining the motive behind the attacked, Greenberg says, “My understanding is, everytime there is a pro-R. Kelly protest outside of the jail, they lock down the entire facility. When they do this, inmates don’t get their commissary, they don’t get their shower, stuff like that and since they’re fairly sporadic anyway, they get upset. So they’re penalizing everyone in the facility because people are protesting in support of Kelly.”
Regardless, it is time to release Mr. Kelly. The government cannot ensure his safety, and they cannot give him his day in court. We should not incarcerate people indefinitely because we cannot provide them with due process!
