The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck at 7:19 a.m. local time at a shallow depth of 2.5 miles (four kilometers) near the city of Ponce and the towns of Guanica and Guayanilla. The same place where hundreds of homes were destroyed by a quake in early January which killed one person and caused millions of dollars in damage.

According to The New York Times, the quake briefly knocked out power and jolted many from their beds. So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties.

However, Ponce Mayor Maria “Mayita” Melendez said several buildings were damaged. Officials are assessing the quake’s effects and checking on citizens, she said.

This latest quake comes at a very hard time. As many countries states, and US territories including Puerto Rico are currently on lockdown due the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor of San Juan says it’s been extremely hard them during this pandemic as no one in Puerto Rico has received their $1200 stimulus money. It is unclear if anyone has received since their money following her interview on MSNBC.

According to the latest updates, the novel coronavirus has infected roughly 3.3 million people and killed more than 239,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
