GSU student Bria Blake uploaded a video about the incident Wednesday evening where she says her two classmates, Taylor and Kamryn, were two minutes late to their English class. The professor identified as Carissa Gray asked the pair to leave the class because of their lateness. According to Blake, Taylor said in response that she “paid to be here” and refused to leave. Gray left the classroom shortly after and returned with two armed police officers.

“Stuff like this cannot keep happening to Black youth in America. Stop weaponizing the police against Black people. Calling the police on two students for being two minutes late to class is extremely unreasonable and dangerous,” Blake continued.

GSU officials said in a statement that an investigation is currently underway and noted that calling campus police over tardiness is not usual behavior from university staff. Additionally, Gray is no longer teaching in-person classes this semester.

‘Campus police arrived after being called by the faculty member and de-escalated the situation between the students and faculty member. Clearly, no crime had been committed so there were no arrests.’
