Priyanka Chopra Reveals A Botched Nose Surgery Sent Her Into A ‘Deep Depression’ That Nearly Derailed Her Acting Career Before It Started
Priyanka Chopra says her bout with depression came after she received a botched nose surgery — one that was recommended by a doctor. On Monday (May 1), the 40-year-old actress joined SiriusXM’s ‘The Howard Stern Show,’ and told host Howard Stern, “It was a dark phase” in her life.
According to Chopra, she underwent her career-altering procedure right at the beginning of her claim to stardom. She said that soon after winning the title of Miss World 2000, which was followed by her taking over Bollywood, doctors had recommended that she get a polyp in her nasal cavity removed.

Subsequently, she underwent the surgery, during which she now claims a surgeon accidentally shaved off the bridge of her nose — causing it to collapse. She said following the botched surgery, she was fired from three different movies.
Chopra said that she truly feared that her acting career was “over before it started.” She added that had dreaded leaving the house, and eventually things got worse. She said, “This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression.”

Chopra said that her father, Ashok Chopra, who has since passed, encouraged her to get corrective surgery, despite her being hesitant to want to go under the knife again.
She explained, “I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you.’ He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence.”
Aside from Chopra’s father encouraging her, she said that she was also supported by Bollywood director Anil Sharma, to whom she expressed her gratitude for helping her through one of the most difficult times in her career.
She said, “I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. That filmmaker was very kind. He — while the tide was against me — said, ‘It will be a small part but give it your all.’ And I did.’”
