According to ABC News, the autopsy was performed by famed medical examiners Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson as reported by the family’s attorney Ben Crump. In their findings, it was revealed that his death was “caused by asphyxia due to neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain” on Monday. They also concluded that the extra weight on Floyd’s back, handcuffs, and positioning was a contributing factor to his death because it impaired his diaphragm to properly function.

In the video where former MPD officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck, you can hear Floyd repeatedly saying he couldn’t breathe for approximately eight minutes.

The original autopsy report conducted by the medical examiner in Minneapolis stated that there were no findings of strangulation or asphyxiation and claimed Floyd’s underlying health conditions were a contributing factor to his death.

The three other officers who were involved in the arrest have been fired but were not charged for Floyd’s death.
