President Donald Trump makes history as he becomes the first sitting United States president to attend an NBA Finals game.
On Monday (June 8), President Trump arrived at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden to watch as the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs play each other in Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
Trump’s arrival — which he teased a few weeks ago — caused an uproar amongst those on social media. Notably, Stephen A. Smith commented on his upcoming arrival, blasting Trump as selfish.

As Smith argued, Trump’s arrival caused serious delays for fans getting into MSG and traffic on the local streets. Despite holding up traffic on the streets and in the venue, Trump still showed up. He was seen standing in NY Knicks owner Jim Dolan’s box.
He was accompanied by several people from his administration, including: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy; Interior Secretary Doug Burgum; White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino; and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin.
Some of Trump’s family members also joined him, including: Special Envoy Jared Kushner and Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump.
During the National Anthem — sang by singer Avery Wilson — Trump smiled as some fans chanted “USA!” However, when his face appeared on the Jumbotron, Knicks fans began booing him. He simply smirked as the crowd chanted against him.
