President Donald Trump is again mentioning how his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, “hates” when he does his little dance to “Y.M.C.A.,” which he says is “sometimes referred to as ‘The Gay National Anthem.’”
On Friday (May 1), Trump landed in Florida as he took the stage at The Villages. The even was held to celebrate “No TAX on Social Security.” During the event, Trump revived his “embarrassing” weightlifter impersonation and infamous “Y.M.C.A.” dance.
Trump has been doing the impression since 2022. And he again revived it on stage at his recent rally. President Trump said his wife, Melania, believes the impersonation is “so unpresidential.” He said:
“She particularly hates the image of me showing sweat and strain of the young woman trying to win the weightlifting contest against a group of women and one gentleman who decided to go on to the other side. He transferred to the other side and transgender, anyone? She got up and her mother was down there. Oh, her mother was so proud with the American flag, a little American flag … and she was screaming for her child, who was a weightlifter – a real good one – and she got up, and she grabbed it. And she got it. ‘Come on, baby, you can do it’. The mother’s screaming, the father didn’t care because he doesn’t believe that his daughter can beat the person that’s coming up next. The father’s saying ‘there’s no way she’s beating that guy.’ So she gets up and she puts- and she’s ready … ‘Come on, darling,’ the mother’s screaming, ‘darling, I love you darling’. ‘Ah, mom, I can’t do it.’ She couldn’t do it. She failed, she was devastated.”

President Trump continued to speak on his infamous “Y.M.C.A” dance and how Melania “hates” that too. He said:
“…She’s done a great job. But she hates it when I do the thing on weightlifting. She says it’s so un[residential. And she hates when I dance at the end to—she hates when I dance to what’s sometimes referred to as ‘the gay national anthem.’ You know? She hates it. You know, that song was number 5 32 years ago. And it went to number 1 32 years later. There’s never been anything like it. It never hit number 1. It was number 5 32 years ago and it went to number 1 for months during the last [few] months. We love that song. But she goes, ‘Darling, please,’ she’s a very elegant woman. She goes, ‘Darling, please don’t do that dance. It’s not presidential.’ I said, ‘It may not be presidential, but I’m leading by 20 points in the polls.”
Before May’s event, Trump previously told his constituents how his wife “hates” his little impersonation and dance back in January. She again called it “unpresidential.” Trump said:
“My wife hates when I do this. She’s a very classy person, right? She said, ‘It’s so unpresidential.’ I said, ‘but I did become president.’ … She said, ‘Darling please, the weight-lifting is terrible.’ … [She also thinks my dancing is unpresidential]. She hates when I dance. She actually said, ‘Can you imagine FDR dancing?’”
