President Biden Reportedly Considering Revoking Trump’s Rights To Be Briefed On Nation’s Secrets

In the wake of the Capitol riot, the Biden administration is reportedly reviewing whether to take away the ability of former President Donald Trump to receive classified security briefings as the former president.

When asked about a topic that also came up during the transition, White House spokeswoman confirmed Monday the administration was reviewing the matter, the Daily Mail reports. “This is a good question,” said Psaki. “It’s something that’s obviously under review.”

Former presidents get classified briefings by tradition. However not at the very highest levels reserved for the current officeholder. Some Democratic critics of Trump have argued he should not be trusted with state secrets in the wake of the deadly US Capitol siege. During Monday’s briefing a reporter pointed Psaki to “concerns among some Democrats” that Trump would either “misuse” the information “or leverage it to enrich himself,” The New York Post notes.

Ultimately, the decision will come down to Biden. Trump would usually speak out on news like this, but because his social media accounts have been suspended — many of them permanently — he’s unable to. There’s also been no comment from his team so far either.
