Post Malone Slapped With Lawsuit For Failing To Credit ‘Circles’ Songwriter

Songwriter Tyler Armes has filed a lawsuit against Post Malone, requesting credit and royalties on one of the rapper’s biggest hits, “Circles.”

Armes, who co-wrote the track with Posty, claims the rapper’s manager encouraged that the two work together on the song back in August 2018, a year before its August 30, 2019 release; which ended up taking the No. 1 spot, without any credit to Armes.

In his lawsuit, Armes stated that he and Post’s team were negotiating terms before the track’s release. He claims they offered five percent of publishing royalties with zero credit; to which Armes countered, asking for a higher percent and co-writing credit. He says they declined.

Armes added that in addition to co-writing the lyrics on the track, he also co-wrote the chords and bass line, and contributed his skills towards the guitar melody.

Also, the suit states that Post verbally acknowledged Armes’ contribution on the track, but he’s still requesting co-writer’s credit and a fair cut on past and future royalties.

In addition to Post, Armes’ suit also lists the track’s producer Frank Dukes, who was actually given a writing credit, and was present during the initial recording session back in August 2018.
