Post Malone is crediting his fiancée for helping him overcome a rough period that saw him battling alcoholism. In his interview on The Howard Stern Show earlier this week, the “Rockstar” chart-topper admitted to not having been in a good place when he started drinking excessive amounts of orange juice and vodka, a mixture which is better known as “screwdrivers.”

After being quizzed by the radio personality about whether he has been able to overcome his struggle and lead a sober life, Post, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, shared that while he still drinks, he assuringly said he’s “responsible now.” Drinking alcohol these days no longer has him slouched on the floor, having conversations with imaginative people, and he’s thankful that his fiancée — whose identity still remains unknown — helped him get a better place in his life.

“It was to a really rough point, and I couldn’t get up off the floor for weeks,” he said. “It was vodka, and it was bodying fifths and trying to hang in there and talking to people who weren’t f—ing there. I just have super beautiful people around me, and I met a really beautiful person that made me feel like a human being again.” Post added that he thoroughly believes this future wife “saved my f**king life,” before mentioning how his longtime pal Justin Bieber also had a helping hand by simply being a positive influence on him.

“There was a time to where I had so much guidance and Justin [Bieber] was guiding me … [but] at the end of the day I have to do what I want to do, and that’s what I’m going to do,” the 26-year-old continued. “People can look at you from the outside and see that something’s wrong, and you can be trapped in your own f—ing world. I need to do a lot less talking and a lot more listening … I’m 26 and I’m learning every f—ing day.”

Post believes that his former alcohol addiction was most likely a symptom of low self-esteem which started at a time when the Grammy winner said he hadn’t been happy with who he was. Now, however, he wants nothing more than to be a better version of the person he was yesterday, stressing, “All we can do is just don’t be a d*ckhead, that’s the golden rule.”

After a three-year hiatus, Post released his fourth studio album Twelve Carat Toothache on June 3, which went on to sell a whopping 121,000 copies in the first week and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 200.
