Authorities are currently investigating what could be a “bad prank” after a sign near a local Popeyes read that the establishment will no longer serve white people under new management.

The incident occurred at a Popeyes restaurant in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri where authorities say the sign was posted in the drive-thru lane. Additionally, they believe someone other than an employee posted the sign as a bad joke and it quickly became viral on social media as reported by KMOV4. It reads, “Effective 6-1-21 this restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, general manager, Mason.”
A manager at the restaurant said they had to close the restaurant on Wednesday due to the backlash from the sign and added that the person who posted the sign was not an employee based on surveillance footage.

A customer named Angela said she saw the sign as early as Monday while she was picking lunch. Another woman named Karen says the sign could “incite more hate” due to its content. Authorities also reported that the recent posting could be connected to a vandalism incident that occurred at the restaurant recently.
