The driver was waiting for an order when she noticed the roaches crawling around the counter and on straws. She said she informed the workers about the pests but they cleared out of the back area. According to WXYZ Detroit, the woman explained she never saw anything like this during her two years as a delivery driver and even threw away the customer’s order then helped the customer get a refund.

“I was told the order was not ready so I proceeded to wait in the lobby and during that time there were a couple orders on the counter and I seen a roach crawling across the straws. It was just like all over the counter, all over the utensils and all over the bags and things like that. I was shocked. I was disgusted. I just couldn’t believe that they were even open and working in those conditions,”

The Detroit Health Department said in a statement to the outlet that they sent a message to an inspector to the restaurant location. Additionally, the Health Department conducts observations every six months since Popeye’s only serves chicken.

According to a spokesperson, the restaurant is owned by a franchisee and Popeyes immediately closed down the restaurant after learning about the infestation.

“This is completely unacceptable! This restaurant was run by an independent franchisee and has been shut down until it can provide our guests with the Popeyes standards and service they deserve.”

After the post went viral, people questioned the drivers motives since she claimed she threw the order away yet others said she delivered the meal and told the customers afterward.”She only still accepted and delivered the order to make sure she got paid. Although she gave them a warning I would have contacted DoorDash support and told them what was going on and contacted whoever else needed to close the store,” one user wrote.
