Florida rapper Plies is dropping his copyright infringement lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy, in which he claims Glo and Meg’s 2024 song “Wanna Be” indirectly and without consent sampled his 2008 song by legally sampling a 2010 Soulja track.
As we previously shared in November 2024, Plies filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy. In his filing, Plies claimed they stole the beat to his 2008 song “Me & My Goons” on Glo and Meg’s “Wanna Be” track, whose remix features Cardi.
Plies further accused Soulja Boy of using his 2008 “Me & My Goons” beat on Soulja’s 2010 hit “Pretty Boy Swag.” Days later, Megan’s producer, Max Julian aka Lil Ju Made Da Beat, chimed in and said “Wanna Be” sampled rapper Lil Wil’s 2006 hit “My Dougie.”
About a week after Plies’ copyright lawsuit, Soulja Boy chimed in and responded during a live on social media. Soulja called Plies’ lawsuit a “police” move and dragged him, claiming:
“Plies, if you don’t sit your broke a** down somewhere, n***a. What the f**k wrong with your cheap a*s, n***a? ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your beat, n***a. So, you want to wait 10 years to try to sue a n***a for a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man. What the f**k is wrong with you, Plies? You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ‘cause you a motherf***ing liar, n***a. You know that ain’t your motherf***ing beat, broke a** n***a. What the f**k wrong with you? You should’ve just said, ‘Aye, bro. I’m broke. Let me hold something.’
That beat is all original music. You can only sue somebody if they sample your song and don’t get it cleared. That is not a sample. Broke a** n***a. Sit your broke a** down somewhere, n***a. The f**k wrong with you? You know how much blood, sweat, and tears, I put into ‘Pretty Boy Swag,’ n***a? You trying to come and claim my sh*t, n***a? My sh*t don’t sound nothing like alike, n***a. F**k wrong with you? That is not a sample, n***a.” Soulja proceeded to emulate the beat on Plies’ track versus the beat on his and then said, “That don’t sound nothing alike. Man, sit your crackh*ead a** down somewhere, broke a** n***a.”

Soulja Boy Reacts To Plies Dropping Copyright Lawsuit: ‘This My Sh*t, Dummy’
Since his November 2024 lawsuit, Plies has dropped the case against Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, GloRilla, born Gloria Woods, Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar, and Soulja Boy, born Deandre Way, as of Friday (March 14). Again, the initial lawsuit claimed:
“Defendant Soulja Boy authorized Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla to sample [his song]. [Wanna Be] incorporates substantial elements of the copyrighted material underlying ‘Me & My Goons,’ without authorization from plaintiffs.”
According to Billboard, in the motion, Piles, born Algernod Washington, voluntarily dismissed the entire lawsuit “without prejudice.” This means he could refile the case in the future, but as of now, it remains closed. The publication further reported that the court documents did not reveal if the parties came to any kind of agreement or settlement.
Reacting to the lawsuit dismissal, Soulja Boy reposted the news to his Instagram feed. In his caption, he wrote, “Just like I thought. Sit yo lil broke a** down, n**a. This my sh*t, dummy.”
