As we previously reported, a petition was created to have the NBA change the logo which currently features Lakers great Jerry West. Fans now want an outline image of Kobe in the front of the silhouette to honor the late star. As of Monday, over 280,000 people had signed the petition, and according to the latest updates this Wednesday, over 2 million people have put their signature down in hopes of seeing this major change.

“With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalize him forever as the new NBA Logo,” reads the petition, which was created by Nikyar Moghtader, 16, of Vancouver. He said his initial goal was a to garner one hundred signatures. “The reason I began the petition for Kobe Bryant was because he was a hero and role model to me just like he was to countless amounts of fans,” Moghtader told NBC News. “His passing took a big chunk out of my heart and I began the petition out of respect for him not really expecting it to go anywhere.”

The current NBA logo was introduced in 1969 and was designed by Alan Siegel. As of right now, it is unclear if the NBA plans to make these changes.
