Parents Of Oxford High School Shooter James And Jennifer Crumbley Caught, Arrested After Trying To Flee

On Friday, prosecutor filed involuntary manslaughter charges against the parents of of a teen accused of killing four students in a shooting at Oxford High School.

Shortly after the announcement, James and Jennifer Crumbley fled and weren’t able to be found. However, Detroit Police Chief James E. White told a news conference that they were captured in a commercial building that housed artwork. The Crumbley’s attorney, Shannon Smith, said Friday that the pair had actually left town earlier in the week “for their own safety” and told The Associated Press they would be returning to Oxford to be arraigned. However, White seemed to dismiss the possibility that was their intention: “This isn’t indicative of turning yourself in — hiding in a warehouse.”

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe also said in a statement that a Detroit business owner spotted a car tied to the Crumbleys in his parking lot late Friday. A woman seen near the vehicle ran away when the business owner called 911, McCabe said. The couple was later located and arrested by Detroit police.

James and Jennifer Crumbley entered not guilty pleas to all charges against them during their arraignment Saturday morning. Their 15-year-old son who is suspect in the killing of four students in an Oxford, Michigan, school was charged – as an adult – with four counts of first-degree murder and terrorism, among other charges.
