Opportunity Is The New Black: How To Guilt White People Into Equality

It’s been one of those weeks where I honestly didn’t know what to think. With the cancellation of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben, and the threat of Ms. Butterworths being placed on life support I honestly didn’t know what to say.

Since when did reparations have anything to do with canceling a pancake mix or syrup line! All I’ve ever wanted was to live out my one life with the belief that I can become ANYTHING I want. Growing up biracial I knew race was real because I got it from every direction. Black people felt a certain way because I was mixed, and white people saw me as a NIGGER.

I remember when I was in the seventh grade and I got on the bus to go back to the group home. This white boy looked at me and said, “don’t sit here nigger.” I said, “what did you call me”? He replied, “I said you can’t sit here nigger.” I just began punching him and didn’t stop until they pulled me off of him. It was that day that I knew I had to fight for equality and respect EVERY SINGLE DAY.

With today’s racial climate I’ve had my own ERUPTION OF CONSCIOUSNESS. Although I have to credit Amanda Seales for helping me put my emotional state of mind into words, I find myself stuck there. With this newfound wokeness I’ve seen so many companies saying how they’re for the Black Lives Matter movement. Some committing to donate money while others promise to create opportunities for people of color. I have to admit, at first, I was suspicious thinking all they were trying to do was avoid the smoke that the black lives matter movement was given to anyone who didn’t seem with us. Then it hit me. WHO CARES!

I’m going to take advantage of this moment. While I love ALL people, white people have obnoxiously taken advantage of black people for too long and I’m personally over it. I’ve sat in rooms when they’ve tried to shrink me. I’ve been on shows where all they’ve wanted me to give is the savage destructive part of me.

I’ve also witnessed the birth of the new house nigga. Black people who think they’re “driving the culture” all the while owning nothing. Inside Apple telling the white folks how to get blacks to buy into their brands and thinking they’re cool all the while aren’t being positioned to own anything. In essence, selling the culture for clout. I’m sure the house nigga thought he had clout over the field hands even though when he went to bed, he knew he was just another nigga.

I’M TAPPING INTO THE GUILT OF WHITE PEOPLE AND FORCING MY OWN REPARATIONS.

Now don’t take this as me hating white people because it’s actually the opposite. It’s forcing them to take their knees off our necks when it comes to advancement in the workplace, access to resources and infrastructure that has been kept from us, and more importantly, exposing companies who claim to be for blacks but rob, steal and exploit our blackness.

I’m unapologetically putting everyone on notice that this is OUR time. OUR time to reclaim it all and not think about hurting anyone’s feelings. This is also not about hating white people. In fact, we need white people and it’s been beautiful watching them walk with us in protest, cast out racism from their families, and loudly scream, BLACK LIVES MATTER.

White people aren’t the problem. RACISTS are the problem.

So, remember one thing, if you’re pushing YOUR agenda and someone tells you NO, simply ask, WHY? And if they ask you why simply say, this is your opportunity to do something right and opportunity is the new BLACK!
