Olympics Could Still Be Cancelled If Coronavirus Cases Continue To Rise

If you were looking forward to the Olympics coming back, there is still a chance that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics could be canceled due to an increase in coronavirus cases.

The chief of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee said that he would not to rule out a last-minute cancellation as cases rise and athletes test positive.

“We can’t predict what will happen with the number of coronavirus cases. So we will continue discussions if there is a spike in cases,” said Toshiro Muto. “We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises.”

The increase in COVID-19 cases in Tokyo initially caused the event to be postponed last year because of the ongoing pandemic, and now it will take place without a live audience as athletes will compete in empty venues to prevent health risks.
