‘OITNB’ Star Samira Wiley Reveals Inspiration Behind Name Of Newborn Daughter George Elizabeth
A week ago for Mother’s Day, we shared that ‘Orange Is The New Black (OITNB)‘ star Samira Wiley, 34, and her wife (who is the show’s writer and producer) Lauren Morelli, 38, welcomed a baby girl named George Elizabeth a month earlier. After leaving the internet “very confused” about her daughter’s name, Wiley has since revealed the inspiration behind it.
While most think of the name “George” traditionally as a male name, Wiley explained to Jimmy Kimmel, “I just really like the name. I just think it’s really cute.” She jokes about wishing she “had some really in-depth story to tell people about George,” but it all came down to preference.

Wiley adds, “I tried to do some research. I found out in the 1800s it was a girl’s name, but people don’t believe me when I say that.” She continues to explain that George is also the name of a female character in the Nancy Drew mystery novels, although she’s never read any of the books herself.
