Officer Punches Black Store Owner Who Reported Robbery

An Alabama police officer ended up punching a black business owner who called 911 to report a robbery.
Newly released footage caught the March 15 incent that left Kevin Penn, 47, with a broken jaw. According to AL.com, the video shows an officer punching him at Star Spirits & Beverages in Decatur.
Penn had initially called police to report that his store had been robbed and that he was holding the suspect at gunpoint. In the video, Penn appears to be refusing to put down a gun, and that’s when an officer walks in and punches him in the face. The officer has not bee n identified, but he has been put on desk duty.
“We wanted to show that because one thing I strive to do is build a relationship with the community,” said Decatur Police Chief Nate Allen. “We need to be very transparent; we need to be very open. But most of all, we need our citizens to respect the police department and we need the police department to respect the citizens.”</blockquote
