Witnesses reported that Pierce McCaffrey was involved in a solidarity bike ride during protests for George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. McCaffrey and other cyclists were moving slowly in front of an NYPD van to prevent any issues between officers and protestors. The clip uploaded to Vimeo shows four officers tackling McCaffrey then one throws several punches at his head.
The witness who recorded the video, Mike Hassell, is telling McCaffrey not to resist arrest.

The Daily Mail said in their report that McCaffrey spoke with Streetsblog to give his side of the story and said he was handcuffed then thrown into a police vehicle after the assault. The officers also didn’t use a verbal warning before the attack or told him to move out of the way. He was taken to the 72nd Precinct and issued a summons for disorderly conduct.
‘They started tackling me to the ground, punched me, put my hands behind my back, handcuffed me and threw me into the car,’
Hassell said in a statement that the officers were upset because the cyclists were moving too slow.
‘They were literally just pissed off because he was going slow. There was blood — they hit his head on the ground. It was such a vicious attack.’
