According to CP24, Barnes and his niece, Elizabeth Barnes, were killed while he piloted a  Socata TBM 700 plane and crashed into a wooded area. Authorities reported he and the woman were the only people on board in the 6-seated single-engine aircraft and it was registered to an address matching Cellino and Barnes’ offices.

Barnes is most famous for his injury law firm’s jingle and the phone number 888-888-8888. He worked with Ross Cellino for thirty years before their split in June. After receiving news of his partner’s death, Cellino said, “His passing is a significant loss for the legal community. He was always a fearless advocate for his clients. All of us at Cellino & Barnes are deeply saddened,”

The jingle was also parodied on Saturday Night Live and became a viral challenge for Broadway actors in 2018.

The pair had several public falling outs through their three-decade partnerships and had battled in court despite appearing in commercials and advertisements throughout New York City. Barnes is survived by his wife Ellen Sturn and their three children.
