New York Schools Cleared To Open For In Person Classes
While the Coronavirus seems to be getting worse in states like California, Arizona, and Texas, New York is begging to take a step towards normalcy.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday, that New York schools can resume in person classes at the beginning of the school year. Students must wear masks, and there will be some days off accompanied by remote learning.

“Today is the deadline to look at the infection rates and make a determination. By our infection rates, all school districts can open everywhere in the state,” Cuomo said. “Every region is below the threshold that we established.”
“Everywhere in the state, every region is below the threshold that we established,” Cuomo said during a pre. conference call. “If there’s a spike in the infection rate, if there’s a matter of concern in the infection rate, then we can revisit.”
However, despite this Fox News reports that the teachers’ unions said that just one positive case of COVID-19 in a school should call for an “immediate closure” for 14 days.
“The unions believe that if districts are to move forward with reopening their school buildings, they must err on the side of caution at all times,” the unions wrote in a statement. “Specifically, in the event of a positive COVID-19 case, the unions are calling for an immediate closure of that school building and a return to remote learning for 14 days before revisiting whether it is safe for the building to reopen.
