New Study Claims Superfans, Or Celebrity-Obsessed People, Have Low Intelligence
#Socialites, get into this! According to a new study published in BMC Psychology in November 2021, celebrity-obsessed people, or superfans, have low intelligence. Do you agree?! 👀
The study claims that “there is a direct association between celebrity worship and poorer performance on cognitive tests,” when measuring both literacy and numeracy. Apparently, the study surveyed 1,763 Hungarian adults. They took a 30-word vocabulary test and digit symbol substitution test, followed by a “Celebrity Attitude Scale” questionnaire — which determined their levels of interest in famous people.

In a series of statements, the participants answered “yes” or “no.” One statement read, “If I were lucky enough to meet my favorite celebrity, and he/she asked me to do something illegal as a favor I would probably do it.” After calculating results from the two cognitive ability tests, experts found that those who performed poorly there, ended up scoring scoring high on the Celebrity Attitude Scale. #Socialites, do you think celebrity worshipping is a cause or consequence of low cognitive function?
