New Mexico Man Admits To Killing His Landlord 15 Years Ago; Claims He’s ‘Tired Of Covering It Up’

The man has been identified as 37-year-old Tony Peralta, and recently told law enforcement officials about his horrible secret that involved him killing his 69-year-old landlord and roommate, William “Bill” Blodgett over a decade ago. According to authorities in Roswell, New Mexico, Blodgett disappeared in December 2008 and hasn’t been seen since.

Blodgett was never found alive, nor has any remains been discovered, and no one had been arrested following his disappearance. Blodgett’s son Greg reported his dad missing on January 3, 2009 after no one in the family was able to reach him for more than 10 days. An investigation was launched, and it came out that Blodgett had a prior issue with his tenant, who authorities later identified as Peralta. It was learned that Blodgett tried to evict him, but to no avail.

Authorities said “no new leads” came from a conversation had with Peralta at the time, and eventually, the case just went cold. That is until Peralta came clean about his actions that have been eating him alive for more than a decade.

Last month, authorities say that Peralta used someone’s phone to call police and issue a blunt confession about a crime he said he committed nearly 15 years ago. According to Peralta’s affidavit, he told a detective, “I killed somebody, dude. I killed him with a screwdriver. I’m just tired of covering it up. I’m tired of living with my life, sir. A lot of people have an excuse, I don’t have one.”

After Peralta called into the Roswell Police Department on May 1, and made his shocking confession, he would later be captured on police body camera getting emotional about what he had done and finally revealed to police. He repeatedly confessed to killing his landlord, and he even told the law enforcement officials what kind of weapon he used in the killing, and where he buried the victim’s body.

According to the Chaves County District Attorney’s Office, after confessing to his crime, Peralta was immediately taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
