A woman was arrested earlier this week after she used a fake birth certificate to enroll at a local high school in northern New Jersey.

Hyejong Shin, 29, used a forged birth certificate to enroll in public high school classes, and the New Jersey Department of Education does not require proof of guardianship to enroll unaccompanied minors, according to CBS News. The administration of New Brunswick High School stated in a letter to parents that Shin attended classes for four days while posing as a freshman. In addition, she texted students and invited them to hang out after school.
One student called Shin’s behavior “weird” after one of her friends didn’t show up to hang out with her. “Some of the girls I know, the girl did ask them to hang out at Commercial Avenue, but they never showed up, and she started acting weird with them,” It’s scary because you never know what could happen,” they further explained.

A parent also told the outlet that her daughter, a senior, expressed concern about Shin and questioned how she was able to enroll in the school without anyone noticing her age.
The district superintendent said in a statement that they will review their enrollment policies to quickly identify false documentation used to enroll students.
A 29 year old woman enrolled at my old high school and just got caught today. She went for a week and no one knew anything, no one suspected anything, no one said anything. She was caught by the guidance counselor who kept calling her back to the office cuz something felt off.

After the news went viral online, Twitter users called the situation disturbing as Shin’s intention to become a New Brunswick High School student is currently unclear.

As much as I disliked high school I could never imagine purposely trying to enroll in it again. She needs to be under the jail https://t.co/YCiOn2xUTU

Y’all dumbasses in the replies giving her the benefit of the doubt. She falsified documents. There was no reason for her to sneak around minors and ask them to hangout if she wasn’t up to something terrible. If it was about an education, she would’ve gotten a GED. https://t.co/wJY4rLpJ4l

I keep saying we need an adult “high school” for people who peaked in high school and just want to go back. They can all be weird together there. https://t.co/iMh830rbpc
