Netflix is continuing to add more layers to their crackdown when it comes to sharing passwords with other people. On Monday Netflix announced a new fee they will charge to customers who share accounts. The new method they’re testing would be classified as a “extra homes” fee when they stream through a TV or TV-connected device located outside the household.

The fee will reportedly be $2.26 per month in Argentina and $2.99 per month in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

“Beginning August 22, 2022, if your Netflix account is being used on a TV outside of your home, you will need to pay an extra $2.26 per month for each extra home. You will only be charged when you or someone who uses your account chooses to add an extra home—this fee will NOT be automatically charged,” Netflix says on its Honduras pricing page.

As we previously posted Netflix made an announcement they were going to start cracking down on members sharing their passwords with other people.

“We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and multiple streams in our Standard and Premium plans,”the company said in a statement.“While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared.”

With sharing passwords Netflix says it affects the “ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members.”

“We recognize that people have many entertainment choices, so we want to ensure any new features are flexible and useful for members, whose subscriptions fund all our great TV and films,” Netflix said. “We’ll be working to understand the utility of these two features for members in these three countries before making changes anywhere else in the world.”

Netflix Reportedly Lost 970,000 Subscribers In Quarter 2

It might not be a shock to you that Netflix has started to loose their subscribers after they started jacking the price and also adding fees for password sharing, but numbers were released today and showed that the company has now lost a whopping 970,000 subscribers!

“We’ll likely start in a handful of markets where advertising spend is significant,” the company said in its shareholder letter. “Like most of our new initiatives, our intention is to roll it out, listen and learn, and iterate quickly to improve the offering. So, our advertising business in a few years will likely look quite different than what it looks like on day one.”

Netflix had warned investors last quarter that it expected to shed around 2 million subscribers, but only lost around 970,000 during the three month period ending June 30.
