NASA Says An Asteroid Is Headed Towards Earth Just Before Election Day

If the coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest, 560 wildfires in California, plus the two hurricanes forming in the Gulf of Mexico weren’t enough going on, NASA officials now say an asteroid is headed towards Earth, just before election day!

Officials at the Center for Near Earth Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory say the celestial object — which was identified at California’s Palomar Observatory in 2018 and named 2018VP1 — is projected to come close to Earth on November 2, one day before the presidential vote.

NASA says the asteroid, which is measured at 0.002 km or about 6.5 feet, may come with three potential impacts, however, “based on 21 observations spanning 12.968 days,” they determine the object will probably not have too deep of an impact, let alone cause drastic doomsday damage. They’ve calculated the chance of it hitting us at 0.41%.

Additionally, a NASA spokesperson tells Fox News, “Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approximately 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth. If it were to enter our planet’s atmosphere, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size. NASA has been directed by Congress to discover 90% of the near-Earth asteroids larger than 140 meters (459 feet) in size and reports on asteroids of any size.”
