The mother of Salvador Ramos, the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooter, is speaking out to ask for forgiveness.
While speaking with CNN affiliate Televisa, the mother, Adriana Martinez, becomes emotional as she tries to explain what made her son carry out the horrific attack. She said, “I don’t know what he was thinking. He had his reasons for doing what he did. And please don’t judge him. I only want the innocent children to forgive me.” Martinez then shared a message to the families: forgive me, forgive my son. I know he has his reasons.”
In an earlier interview with ABC News, she defended her son saying he’s “not a monster,” but that he could “be aggressive.” However, she went on to admit, “I had an uneasy feeling sometimes, like ‘what are you up to?” Adriana told ABC News’ Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman in an interview at her home. “He can be aggressive… If he really got mad.”

“We all have a rage, that some people have it more than others,” she added. During that interview, she went on to express sympathy for the children who were killed and to the parents who lost them: “Those kids… I have no words,” she said through tears. “I don’t know what to say about those poor kids.”
As we previously reported, the 18-year-old gunman killed 21 people at the elementary school on Tuesday; 19 children and two teachers. He also shot his grandmother who was listed in critical condition but is expected to survive. Ramos was shot and killed following a standoff with police.
This latest mass shooting is the worst in US history. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said during a press conference Wednesday, “Anyone who shoots his grandmother in the face has to have evil in his heart. But it is far more evil for someone to gun down little kids.”
The father also spoke out and apologized for his 18-year-old son and said the teen should have killed him instead. “I’m sorry [for] what my son did. I never expected my son to do something like that,” the father said in an interview with the Daily Beast. “He should’ve just killed me, you know, instead of doing something like that to someone.”
What Happens From Here?
Texas Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro has asked the FBI to investigate the timeline of the Uvalde elementary school massacre and the police response to it as controversy over how law enforcement officials responded to the scene.
“The people of Uvalde, of Texas, and of the nation deserve an accurate account of what transpired,” Castro wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray. “State officials have provided conflicting accounts that are at odds with those provided by witnesses.”
