The incident occurred while the child was visiting the Santo Inacio Zoo in Villa Nova de Gaia early Friday morning and officials said the boy was playing by the cage before the animal attacked. They said the monkey bit the boy’s hand during the attack then ripped one of his fingers off. Thankfully, a police officer managed to recover the finger and returned it to medics before the boy was rushed to Sao Jao Hospital.
However, it is unclear if plastic surgeons were able to reattach the boy’s finger after his arrival at the hospital.
