Miss Papua New Guinea Stripped Of Crown After Twerking For TikTok
25-year-old Lucy Maino, the current holder of the Miss Papua New Guinea title, since 2019, has been stripped of her crown after uploading now-deleted twerking videos to TikTok.
After much backlash from her booty bouncing video, the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant Papua New Guinea (MPIP PNG) committee announced that Maino would be “released” from her responsibilities as the video showed her not serving as a “role model.” It’s reported that the main duties of a title holder are to act as a cultural ambassador for the country and an advocate for women.

The committee released a statement that read, “Our core purpose is empowerment of women. We are a unique pageant style platform that promotes cultural heritage, traditional values and sharing through tourism about our country and people. MPIP PNG promotes the virtues of confidence, self-worth, integrity, and community service with a parallel focus on education.”
