Microsoft Will Let Employees Work From Home Permanently

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the workplace to rethink its usual practices, and in some cases it has turned out to be more efficient and better for the environment as traffic lessens!

Microsoft is now hopping on the bandwagon and is allowing employees to work from home permanently, even when the pandemic is over.

According to The Verge, a company memo highlights plans to create a “hybrid workplace.” Microsoft will allow employees to work from home freely for at least 50% of their working week, and managers can approve permanent remote work if staff request it.

For employees who work 100% remote, they will be given the option to relocate of they choose to and Microsoft will cover their home office expenses.

Out of the 150,000 employees, most will be able to work at home with the exception of those who need access to hardware labs, data centers, and in-person training.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live, and work in new ways,” says Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft’s chief people officer. “We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual workstyles, while balancing business needs, and ensuring we live our culture.”
