The Grand Rapids, Michigan man has been identified as 42-year-old Marcus Durayalle Lofton. According to court papers, Lofton admitted to shooting and killing his wife and mom of three, Alicia Danielle Lofton. It is reported that the couple had just gotten married in February, and on August 16, she had him served with divorce papers. In addition to the news, it was noted that he learned she was also going to be selling their marital home.

Three months before being hit with a divorce, Lofton was hit with charges after being arrested in May for alleged domestic violence against his wife. Because of the alleged incident, he reportedly was ordered to keep away from her as a condition of his bond; but he ended up making contact with her around 8 a.m. on August 17 at a home on Union Avenue.

The Michigan man allegedly told detectives that after being served with divorce papers, he visited his wife and got into an argument at the home. During the altercation, Lofton said he grabbed his wife’s gun, a Glock, from a drawer, then tried to hit her with it. However, the suspect claimed that the gun went off and that’s when his wife then tried to escape, running into a bedroom and locking the door behind her.

Lofton told police that he forced his way into the room, breaking down the door, and saw his wife trying to climb out of a window. At this moment, he claimed he shot his wife multiple times before fleeing the scene in his maroon colored SUV.

The Michigan man was arrested, and then arraigned on Friday (August 18) on charges of open murder and felony firearm.

Lofton is being held in jail without bond. If convicted, Lofton faces up to life in prison for fatally shooting his wife. Elsewhere, it is reported that Lofton was previously convicted of gun and drug felonies back in 2000, 2002 and 2014.
