According to Insider, Mayor Jaime Rolando Urbina Torres of Tantara was on a night out with friends Monday when he was caught by police breaking curfew. When police arrived to arrest him from the building, Torres was lying in an open casket with his eyes closed while wearing a mask pretending to be in a coronavirus facility. His friends also hid in some drawers to evade arrest.

The Policia Nacional del Peru released a photo of Torres in the open casket before officers arrested him and his friends.

There were no details if Torres and his friends were charged with evading arrest but his act has faced a lot of criticism from local media since he hasn’t been taking the pandemic seriously. Residents called for Torres to make stricter safety regulations and build quarantine safe havens for people who have tested positive for the virus on May 9. He has yet to follow through with their wishes.

Peru currently has over 100,000 confirmed cases and over 3,000 deaths.
