Rep. Maxine Waters Slams Supreme Court For Overturning Roe v. Wade: ‘The Hell With Them, We Will Defy Them’

After the Supreme’s Court June 24, 2022 decision, Congresswoman Waters pledged to defy and protest the Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade.

While standing out the court with dozens of pro-life and pro-choice protesters, Rep. Waters said:

“You see this turnout here?  You ain’t seen nothing yet. Women are going to control their bodies no matter how they try and stop us. The hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them.

Women will be in control of their bodies. And if they think Black women are intimidated or afraid, they got another thought coming.

Black women will be out in droves. We will be out by the thousands, we will be out by the millions. We are going to make sure we fight for the right to control our own bodies.”

U.S. Supreme Court Overturns Landmark Roe v. Wade Decision

As we previously reported, on Friday (June 24, 2022) , in a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which initially allowed women to have an abortion.

The new ruling now remands the issue of abortion back to the states to regulate abortions; which dozens have already begun to enact upon, implementing the strict ban once again.

It’s reported that the majority of those who had a role in the decision, upheld Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

This was the case that directly challenged Roe v. Wade’s ban on most abortion restrictions.

Supreme Court Majority Justice Speaks After Overturning Landmark Roe v. Wade Decision

Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito said:

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.”

Texas’ Democratic Representative Al Green also spoke out and reacted to the Supreme Court’s overturning. Echoing Rep. Maxine Waters’ commentary, he said that pro-choice women are not “fighting alone.”

He added, “There are men who have wives and daughters, there are men who respect women and there will be men in this fight for women. This is not over. It’s just a genesis of a new beginning.”
